Self Esteem

March 11, 2010

What was I reminded of today? Today my sweet, caring and oh so very honest Brooklyn ask me what was wrong with my eyes. Naive me thought my mascara might have smudged so I replied, "Nothing, why is there something on it?" Brooklyn's response....."Yes, you have a bunch of cracks around them." I briefly explained what wrinkles were and encouraged her to use good moisturizer at an early age because she is obviously genetically predisposed to have cracks on her eyes too! Today I was reminded not to depend on a 3 year old to raise your self esteem.
Sidenote: There will be no pictures attached to this post for obvious reasons.

And it begins.......

March 10, 2010
I started back to work seeing kids for therapy which means I leave the girls with a sitter a few hours two days a week.  Today when I got home, Joslynn told me that Brooklyn had a few "issues" today.  Joslynn explained that Brooklyn woke up from her nap in a bad mood and was not very happy about Joslynn being there.  Luckily Joslynn has a lot of experience working with kids and knows not to take anything personally.  However, I could not help but laugh when she told me what Brooklyn did next.  Joslynn said that Brooklyn had spent some time building a fort out of chairs, blankets and pillows.  Blakely accidentally knocked some of the fort down when she was attempting to play with Brooklyn.  Brooklyn got so mad she pulled Blakely's hair.  Joslynn said Blake just looked at Brooklyn like "Why the H$%^ did you do that?"  Of course Joslynn addressed this with Brooklyn and it did not happen again.  While it is not good that Brooklyn pulled her sister's hair, this is the kind of sister "stuff" I love and can't wait to see what all happens next.

More Cousin Time

March 5 & 6, 2010
I wrote earlier about Brooklyn's love for her cousins.  We were lucky enough to have Jackson and Chris spend the night with us this weekend.  I think Blakely is even getting old enough to enjoy having the other kids around.

Don't Ask If You Aren't Ready For The Answer

March 6, 2010
I learned today to not ask a question if I am not prepared to hear the honest answer.  This afternoon Brooklyn threw a HUGE fit because her cousin Jackson had to go home after playing at our house all morning.  She screamed and cried for almost 45 minutes.  I knew part of the tantrum was due to her being very tired so I ignored most of the behavior.  This evening while I was getting her ready for bed I talked to her about the way she acted.  Brooklyn was able to recall what she was doing and why she was acting that way.  She also was able to tell me that she made a really bad choice by acting that way.  I asked her if she was going to act that way again and she very honestly looked me right in my eyes and said, "Well probably."  I love you Brooklyn and thank you for keeping me on my toes!

Valentine's Day

February 14, 2010
We spent Valentine's Day doing what most people do....eating a big lunch, taking a short nap and having ice cream with Cinderella, Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother.  Yes, as if having Cinderella at your birthday and seeing her at Disney Live is not enough.  We went with some friends to celebrate Valentine's with Cinderella at the Ice Cream Shoppe in our old neighborhood.  It was a lot of fun and I was glad Brooklyn was able to share the experience with her friend Landry.  Blakely had a great time too as long as we kept the ice cream coming.  Happy Valentine's Day!

Disney Live

February 12, 2010
Marc and I surprised Brooklyn with a special date to Disney Live.  She has never been to a show like this with the exception of the shows we saw when we went to Disney World in Florida last summer.  We did not tell her what we were doing so when the curtain opened and the Disney characters started appearing she was in shock; however the look on her face when Cinderella came out was the best.  Of course I cried again like I did at Brooklyn's birthday but kept it together overall.  The three of us had a wonderful time and were thrilled to have some special time with Brooklyn.

Hat Day

January 21, 2010
Today was Hat Day at Brooklyn's school.  She was so excited about wearing her Princess Cap but I think she was even more excited about not having to fix her hair!!  Who can blame her, I have those days too.
Happy Hat Day!
